Yesterday, the SHS Choirs participated in the annual Southern Illinois Youth in Harmony Barbershop Festival, and it was a blast! The men were coached by the 2012 International Quartet Champions Ringmasters, and the ladies worked with Mrs. Juliane Sharp of Charleston High School. They had a day filled with rehearsals, special performances, DVD presentations, and Q&A with the guest quartet, all capped-off by a great performance in the evening. The students worked very hard, and the clinicians had nothing but great things to say about the SHS students. We now move into full concert-mode, getting ready for our first home performance on November 4th. A lot of singing for these kids, but they are sounding great!
And we're off and rolling! The choirs have been working hard in preparation for the Fall Concert (Tuesday, November 4th), with the Treble Choir learning some classic pop tunes from the '80s and early '90s, and the Jazz Choir learning a little sample of jazz and jazz-influenced music from throughout the years. We've also had several students audition with solos and small groups to be featured in a Student Showcase that will be part of the Fall Concert as well. Choir t-shirts have been designed and ordered, and they will hopefully be in before we go to the Youth in Harmony Festival. Also upcoming is the IMEA District 5 festival auditions, of which we have 6 students preparing to audition for the Jazz Choir. There are a lot of exciting things taking shape in the Music Department here in Shelbyville, so be sure to stay tuned for more!!
